PASTURES & NUTRITION
Our breeder herd is run on a good multi-species mix of native grasses with areas of improved pastures and legumes. For short periods of the year we will run our heifers on leucaena.
During drought periods or poor seasons, we will provide the female herd with a urea-based molasses or dry lick in the paddock to aid digestion of lignified matter.
Our Bulls are pasture raised and have the natural advantage of a diverse gut-culture so easily adapt to perform in new environments. They are available for purchase ready to work, and don’t require long ‘let-down’ periods but aclimatise quickly and can get straight on with the job.
TEMPERAMENT
Measured and selected for temperament our cattle are taught to handle and respond positively to pressure starting at birth. We produce progeny which are a pleasure to handle – both in the paddock and yards, helping them integrate easily into different production systems.
DATA & PERFORMANCE RECORDING
During calving (Aug-Dec) someone is in the paddock every day recording information on cows and calves and tagging new calves.
RVP collects & submits BREEDPLAN data for full contemporary groups (males an females).

FERTILITY
We operate on a calf or carcass basis. At weaning females which do not bring in a weaner are culled from the herd. Heifers are given the opportunity to go in calf at 14 months old, if they don’t they are re-joined at 24 months old. If they fail to go in calf this time they are culled from the herd.
